I shoulda/woulda/coulda been there, along side you, but this year it was not meant to be. I'm loving all the complete tasting reports and looking forward to sampling your faves.

Having said that, it seems like ABC was M-I-A in your reports? ABC is usually impressive for their restraint and much more supple and savory mouth feel. Wines that hang well with food. You did not taste? Or saving them for a special report edition?

Great critique, Randy. I believe this is not the only occasion that the NYTimes has been guilty of over simplification or even outright misleading analysis and commentary. One can only hope that as consumers our votes with our dollars will be the defining statement. Keep up the great work.

The Livermore and Laing Study is very interesting and the most incredible lesson from your article about it is that all wine tasting is extremely subjective. Trends develop because people tend to go with other people's suggestions instead of trusting their own palates and judgement, because they're afraid they'll seem wrong for using their intuition. I have tried Columbia-Crest Cabernet Sauvignon 2001 .This ruby red wine is medium-bodied and full of fresh fruit flavors like cherry and even blackberry. It is an easy going wine that is fairly friendly for a variety of meal matches. Try it with a zesty steak or pot roast. If you are looking for an interesting cheese to pair it with, give Blue Cheese a shot. The flavors mingle really well together. Reasonably priced at $13 a bottle.I like to drink wine with my Cuban cigars.As Cuban cigars are not available in US market,I Buy Cigars over the internet.

I LOVE a good Cab Franc...I get cocoa/coffee on the nose (and I love both of those). And as a matter of fact, I happen to know that Hahn Estates makes a great Cab Franc. A great day to day wine. And yes, I do work for them, but wouldn't lie about wine...ever. You'd see it in my face :)
